Luis Rivera

Luis is originally from Florida, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Central Florida, under the direction of Jeff Moore and Kirk Gay. During his time at UCF, Luis was involved with the UCF Golden Knights Marching Band, the UCF Percussion Ensemble, the UCF Black Steel Drum Ensemble, and the UCF Symphony Orchestra. He was also the winner of the Music Department’s Performance Excellence Competition and the Presser Foundation Scholarship. While in Florida, Luis was the percussion caption head at Lake Howell High School (2003-2007), a musician at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom (2003-2007), a snare drummer for the Orlando Magic Rhythm and Blue Drumline (2006-2007), and a percussionist with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra.

Luis has been involved in the drum corps activity for the past six years. He marched snare drum with the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps in 2002 and 2003, and also with the Madison Scouts in 2004. He has also taught the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005 and 2006, and just finished the 2007 season with the Boston Crusaders.

Currently, Luis is pursuing his Master’s degree in Percussion Performance at the University of South Carolina under the direction of Dr. Scott Herring. He is also the graduate assistant and percussion instructor/arranger for the USC Marching Drumline, and the principal percussionist with the USC Symphony Orchestra.
